I’m one of the elders. Knocked on doors for This letter is SO needed!!I worked for Tester’s campaign here in MT all thru Sept and Oct. My entire cohort were elders. Near the end kept thinking about the song of our youth, “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” I have marched against all sorts of things in last 50 years. Showed up in minus degree weather at Helena Capitol building on day they were discussing transgender bill. The other hundred people there were mostly elders cuz we didn’t have to work that day. Chris Murphy seems to be fighting. AOC also. But this is NOT politics as usual. Being asked for $$ for midterms??? We may not even HAVE midterms.
I am so grateful for elders tending the fires of opposition and democracy everywhere, Sandy, but especially in my home state in this lonely time. Thank you so, so much.
Garrett, I loved this letter. Can we get a letter to the middle aged and the young next? Because you are right: It IS the elders who seem to most ready to fight. When I was canvassing in the fall it was me and a bunch of senior citizens. On a training call for new Indivisible leaders most of the faces in the Zoom squares were clearly in their retirement years. We need everyone in this fight.
Ooh, great point Laura! I wanted to make sure I praised the elders in this one, but you're right that other generations could use some loving encouragement to match their energy!
If you're on a Zoom, don't discount the folks who don't have their cameras on. This geriatric millennial did a training recently with Markers for Democracy and saw the same comment about 'where are the young people'. Lots of folks without the cameras on responded that they were there, just without a lens.
I'm sure James Carville's argument makes sense from the ivory tower. Take a tactical pause, swoop in later, save the day...but in the meantime, people's livelihoods, even their actual lives, are at stake!
I’ve been steadfast in keeping a subscription to this page and, boy, did I get my money’s worth here! This is an awesome read and I am forwarding it to my two Democratic Senators. I have a GOP Rep so he gets no love this time but I’ll call him up and rattle his chain anyways.
I believe our best chance for a better America, a better world lies with me and my neighbors, and you and your neighbors. We need to tell our elected officials to stop acting evil or to do more to stop the madness, but when it comes right down to it, it will be each of us, holding hands with one another protesting, writing letters, blocking freeways, and fighting for justice everyday in every way we can.

This is a really good reminder
Wow, this is so great! Yes, yes yes! Can we forward this to our representatives?
Please do!
I'm sure James Carville's argument makes sense from the ivory tower. Take a tactical pause, swoop in later, save the day...but in the meantime, people's livelihoods, even their actual lives, are at stake!
YES!!! That's the thing about pundits and consultants! Think about human beings instead of PowerPoints, you all!
Yes! Our representatives should be doing AT THE LEAST as much as we're out there doing.
When you put it like that, seems pretty obvious, right?
YES YES YES! All of this! Thank you for putting this into words better than I ever could, Garrett!
Appreciate you so much!

I JUST SAW THAT!!!!!
This post is brilliant
I'm eager to get in on one of those Barnraiser sessions. I'll be on the lookout.
Would love to have you in one soon, Chiara!

May we all be brave.
