Your posts always come at the right time. Tonight I'm organizing my synagogue's 3rd annual Repro Shabbat (https://www.jewsforabortionaccess.org/repro-shabbat-2025) and every year I always feel like "I'm just quite literally preaching to the choir" but then I remind myself that if even just one additional person comes away understand the importance of abortion funds (what I focus on), then that is a spark that keeps going. So thank you for the guidance to keep going.
It's so crucial, what you're doing! And also I love knowing that you're doing it, which also matters. It's hard for any of us to put out lifeboats if we don't trust that there aren't any others in the harbor.
Also, for what it's worth, that is a GORGEOUS event website.
I feel the spark, too. I feel the warmth. I've been trying (and failing? Or falling towards some success?) to write an anthem or a protest song that captures this feeling I have in these days... your post is good inspiration for me to go back to it today! Thanks, Garrett!
I obviously don't want to rush your creative process but I am now so preemptively excited for whatever art you create out of this moment, Emily, and can't wait to listen to it and share!
You are so kind, Garrett! Thank you! That means so much to me! And thank you for listening to my music! I originally found you through Lyz Lenz and I'm so happy I did. :) This is a wonderful community that helps keep me hopeful! I'll be sure to share what I come up with!
I’m so happy to have found you! I’ve made little stickers with sayings you suggested and I’ve been sticking them all around town- on the handles of grocery store shopping carts, bathroom walls. Gas station pumps, etc. I know it’s a little but I’ve been feeling empowered by the small actions! Thanks!
I have a confession to make. I didn’t initially read the 30 things post because I have such a lack of time and money (and it’s so f’ing cold and I have a very low tolerance for cold, so I’m not going to stand outside for anything until it’s warm enough)… I have felt soooo overwhelmed with everything going on and had been of the opinion that there was nothing I could do or no way to contribute to anything helpful, so I breezed through it, not really reading most of the 30 things.
(Oh, also, I have a phone phobia and just only make phone calls when I absolutely need to (even then I procrastinate them until the last possible minute). I get texts from MoveOn and Planned Parenthood and other activist organizations, and one of them actually called me a couple of weeks ago stating that they would connect me and help me call one of my representatives right then and there. I thought it was such a cool idea, but I was in the waiting room at my daughter’s therapy session, so not a good time for me. If it had been at a different time, I like to think I would have let them help me make the call.)
Anyway, reading this post absolutely gave me a glimmer of hope and gave me the knowledge that there IS something(s) I CAN do!!! So, I went back and really read the 30 things post and see these idea were on there. I downloaded the poster images and the pdfs from the Zine Substack and am going to print some out to distribute and leave places! I’m actually excited about it!
I love this message, Kristin, because I think in speaking to your own emotions over the last few weeks with "do something" messages from myself and others, that you likely spoke to so many others' emotions as well. One of the reasons why I'm experimenting with different types of invitations (and pep talks) right now is that we've all got understandable reasons why adding 'more action' onto our plate, but we're also all seeking the right invitation that feels more accessible. So happy that this piece could help the puzzle pieces click a bit
I have been getting motivated to do something. Today I am attending a local Indivisible meeting. I thought about holding a sign at rush hour, "Elon Musk wants your Social Security $$" or "No Kings in the U.S." but stealth stickies in public bathrooms and other safe places might be safer in my red-turning-purple area.
That's so wonderful! It sounds like you're making really smart decisions about what moves feel right/safe given your community. I hope the Indivisible meeting was great!

I just want to say that I love how the Pittsburgh Graffiti Account continues to spark joy!
