So hard, Garrett. I'm sorry. This sounds like a very difficult situation. What you said about community--"Community isn’t a single right answer. It’s a complicated holding of so many things in our hands that the pile is always teetering, always threatening to tumble out."--is perfect and gives the starting point for why it's all so hard.

Morning Garrett. So tough! Thanks for reminder that there's no single or right answer except to find together what works in your community. I have a friend who still suffers nerve damage from a speeding car that crashed into her car. It was a police car on a high speed chase. I just don't believe that those high speed chases (in so many movies) works for any community. To me, these chases belong to a tradition of hunting and killing ("vermin"). For kids, I imagine the attraction may be the romance and adrenaline of the race and there may even be envy for police who can "legally" race in the streets. I look forward to hearing about the creative options you all come up with. Will be a good prompt for my own imagination.
